Does glue in hair extensions damage your natural hair?

Asked by SJM (41points) July 4th, 2013 from iPhone

My hair length is in between my shoulder and elbow (it’s hard to describe how long it is) and its currently my natural colour (dark brown). I’m dying my hair at the weekend with blonde highlights. My hair is actually quite thin and I’d like to have it a bit longer and thicker. I did used to have clip in hair extensions last year while my hair was just at shoulder length, and I loved them but I found them annoying putting in and taking out, for me it just took too long.

One of my friends had glue in hair extensions and her hair looked lovely, she said they were great! And I’m considering getting them but im not 100% sure whether they’re going to damage my natural hair or make it thin or anything

If anyone can offer any advise on this, please?

(( don’t mention the fact that I’m damaging my hair getting it dyed blonde anyway, I have had my hair blonde before and it’s going to be a dirty blonde, so nothing that’s platinum, plus I’m getting it done in my family hair dresser ))

They did damage my hair a little but looked great in. They are a pain to take care of though. You have to use a special brush so you don’t pull them out. When they start coming loose its hard to resist the temptation to just pull them out and that’s how I think I damaged my hair.
If you have thm professionally removed it might be ok.
