Why do some people have such a hard time putting things away in the same place every time?

My husband drives me crazy! He never puts things away in the same place twice. For example, I was looking in the lazy Susan, where we keep canned goods, and found a bag of sugar. I’ve always kept the sugar up with the spices. For years it’s been kept up there. I needed sugar a few days ago, but couldn’t find any so I couldn’t bake what I had planned on baking.

He uses stuff and I can’t find them after that.

He leaves stuff lying wherever he set them down. Found my scissors out on the trailer in the driveway the other day.

Tools, same thing. You’ll never know where you might find a hammer or a screw driver.

We have a tool box and a nice metal cabinet in the laundry room, but he’ll leave his drills or whatever just lying on the floor in there. What is so hard about opening the cabinet and putting them inside?

As we speak, our 5 foot level is still in the back yard, leaning against the fence where he left it 2 weeks ago.

He’ll take the milk jug out of the fridge and drink the last of it, then leave the jug in the sink instead of taking two steps to the trash.

What is the psychology of a person just leaving stuff lying out, or putting it “someplace else” even if it’s been kept in a certain drawer (or whatever) for YEARS? Is it sheer laziness? Thoughtlessness? A desire for things to be constantly changing?
