What is a good birthday present for a girl who just turned 9?

My daughter’s friend had a party and we didn’t go but I would like to send a gift. She just turned 9. I am willing to spend about 30 dollars.

I was going to get some books but the ones I saw in the bookstore for ages 8 to 11 seem very wordy, and I don’t know how into it she is. I would be totally willing, however, to get her some books if anyone can recommend any. When I think of books I liked when I was her age, they seem outdated and/or wordy, and I was an advanced reader for my age, so I don’t know if they would apply.

I would buy her jewelry or crafts or anything anybody thinks would be a great gift for a 9 year old. I would buy clothes but I don’t know her size.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
