Have you ever heard of a miniature, pure white Pomeranian?

Asked by Aster (20023points) January 2nd, 2014

This pretty little dog wanders into our yard a couple times a year. His owner says she doesn’t know how “Roxie” gets out. She squeezes though our fence and into the doggie door onto the back porch. She is cute but not nice to our dogs at all. She is a pure white Pom. Have you heard of these?

Ice pom’s, they are rare from what I understand.

White Pomeranians are not particularly rare, indeed “the earliest examples of the breed were white or occasionally brown or black” (according to Wiki). There are some breeding considerations for the pure white form, mostly due to defects (although nothing like the merle).

She may indeed not be rare but in two years she still is about four pounds. A toy Ice pom? lol

That’s the influence of the pet trade. Buyers want “teacup’ type crap, and to hell with physical defects. If it will make money, some breeders will breed it.

There’s someone in my neighbourhood who has miniature Poms but they are all either black-and-white, or amber-coloured. I’ve never seen an all-white one.

They might be pretty but they’re nasty, aggressive, yappy things.

@downtide My MIL had a pom that had all kinds of terrible health issues, she spent thousands trying to keep that dog alive. :(

Yes, Roxie jumped up on my lap but snapped and growled at our sweet male bichon mix as he tried to make friends. Both of our bichons are very loud barkers and squealers but , with the horrendous exception of the female who got bladder stones , very healthy doggies.

@KNOWITALL that’s the fault of the breeders, breeding traits into dogs that are popular but harmful. Like bulldogs that can’t breathe properly and Pekes with ulcerated eyes because the eyes are so large they can’t blink completely over the eye.

@downtide Totally with you on that. I’m sporting the Adopt-Don’t Shop bumper sticker…lol

I knew a woman who had to take her “Teacup Yorkie” to the vet every few weeks to have it’s “anal glands” drained. She said all Teacup Yorkie owners have to do this. Bloody hell, what hath man wrought? Sick.

My second dog was a white Pomeranian. She was one of a kind and I miss her so very much.
