Which good actors can you not stop remembering in some of their earlier, possibly sillier or just plain bad, roles?
This Q was inspired by a recent comment by @Dutchess_III about Kurt Russell on This Q. She was remembering him from an old Disney movie, but I can’t get rid of the image of him playing Jungle Boy on Gilligan’s Island, when he was even younger. I think Kurt Russell is a perfectly fine, mature actor, but I can’t help shake the feeling of thinking of him as a child actor in some goofy roles.
Another example is Rick Shroeder, who turned out to be a fine adult actor, but I can’t even think of him without recalling that scene from The Champ where he was a sobbing child, which was an excellent example of child acting, but then they stuck him on that banal sitcom Silver Spoons, I think that almost killed his career.
And then there’s Kevin Costner. He was downright awful in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, but I changed my whole outlook about him when I saw him as an older, fatter actor in The Upside of Anger.
Which good actors do you always think of in their earlier, possibly terrible, roles?
