Can we still trust tinyurl?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) July 8th, 2008

Read this.

So, now people can register/squat on custom tinyurls. If you saw http://tinyurl.com/fluther, might you trust it on face value? What if it rickrolled you, or worse?

At least with the fully random url string, it was clearly implied that you better have some level of trust with the poster of the url. But now, that’s not nearly so obvious.

Or am I overreacting to the best efforts of a for-free service?
