Is it really bad for your face?

Asked by babygalll (2768points) July 12th, 2008

We all may use toilet paper to blow our nose or remove eye makeup. Someone said it’s bad for your face and causes wrinkles. Is it really bad for your face? If so, why?

I can’t see that rubbing toilet paper across a few skin cells on your face would make your face wrinkly. Who is this “someone” who said that it does?

A friend of a friend. I don’t even know the person. We had just got back from makeup shopping and began talking about stuff we use. She said to never use toilet paper to remove makeup because it causes wrinkles. I started laughing, but she insisted that it was bad for your face.

I personally don’t believe so, but doesn’t hurt to ask.

I don’t think its bad, but I find removing eye make-up with toilet paper hurts my under eye skin because it is a lot more rough then say.. A cottonball. But your face and wrinkles? I doubt it.

I don’t see how that could harm your face. Isn’t toilet paper made from close to the same material as facial tissue?

N…no.
Trees ≠ skin cells.

I think hir meant facial tissues (i.e. Kleenex).

I know, I know.
Damn.
Sarcasm and the likes really are hard to get across with letters.

I’ve heard this myth too. Not entirely sure how much there is to it, but supposedly paper/tissue shouldn’t be your first choice for cleaning your face. Whether it’s because of the texture or “absorbancy” (the world of cosmetics are always inventing new words, so I’ll take the liberty..), I’m not sure, but it’s supposed to dry out your skin more than cotton or fabric cloth.
Personally I use cotton pads or the facial wipes (they’re by far the quickest and easiest option) to clean my face – and I’m frequently estimated to be younger than I am ;) of course, behavior may have something to do with that….

The world “bullshit” comes to mind.

People will believe anything. We’re trained to do so from a young age. Just like good little worker ants should.

I don’t think so. It is rougher than facial tissue, and can cause chapping (which you know if you ever had a cold and rean out of tissues), but no.

Toilet paper and facial tissues contain tiny particles of wood fiber. That’s why you aren’t supposed to clean your glasses with either of them.

Like what the others have said, i don’t think that toilet paper on your face could create wrinkles, but a suggestion for some people that might help on the roughness of toilet paper rubbing against your skin, is maybe you could crumple up the toilet paper first before using it?

I second what gail has said. I was told that in high school. It is especially not good to use it around your eyes, just because of what it leaves behind. You should only use non fibrous products in delicate areas like that. I can’t see how it would cause wrinkles, but I’m going to the dermatologist tomorrow and I will try to remember to ask him.

not only could they cause wrinkles, but if
you’re using it around your eyes it can cause dark circles. The skin is very delicate around your eyes.
