What would be the best holiday you have ever been on?

Asked by Magical_Muggle (2265points) May 28th, 2015

I am just curious, please share your experiences, I would love to hear them,
I have too many great experiences to write down, but if i had to write one down right now it would probably be this one:
I was only about 5 and I remember very clearly going to Egypt with my family, I had an absolute ball! I also clearly remember the kindest tour guide who carried me over the hot sand dunes, because the sand hurt my bare feet.
So, what are your experiences?

As a child, it was a fishing trip to Port Aransas with my dad, TX. He spent most of the time with his pals, but whatever time he spent with me was special enough to have planted a memory that has lasted for many decades.

As an adult, it was a birthday weekend in Boston with my high school sweetheart. I have many wonderful memories of that trip, but one that really stands out is of us walking across a frozen Walden Pond holding hands and giggling over shared reminiscences.

I also fondly recall my first trip to London. A devoted Anglophile, I was enchanted by everything I saw and did.

As a kid, a family road trip from San Francisco to Seattle and Anacortes Washington for the 1962 World’s Fair.

As an adult, two weeks in Liguria and Tuscany were pretty good. So was a bed-and-breakfast bicycle tour through Vermont to see the fall colors.

My favorite vacations have been:

-A cruise to Alaska.
-A trip to Japan.
-Spending time in the mountains in New York State.

As an adult I enjoy vacations more. I appreciate seeing the new places more and I take less for granted.

The question made me think and realize that I can’t remember the “best vacation”. I completely remember the worst, it was 7 day cruise to the Bahamas where I had an accident and ended up driving home from the ship in great pain then spending two extremely painful days at our local hospital.
p.s.
I also learned that blood thinners and Mojitos, are a bad combination.

The SO and I have traveled together to Washington DC, Rome, London, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Lisbon, Barcelona, Israel, Athens, Istanbul, and Marrakesh. We’ve discussed which has been our favorite more than once and came to the conclusion that they were all so incredible in their own way that we just couldn’t pick one.

If hard-pressed, I’d have to go with Marrakesh. It was my first time visiting a country in such contrast to anything I had ever experienced. What enhanced the whole experience was the selected hotel. It was located right in heart of the city. We stayed in this riad, run by a couple who served us breakfast each morning on the rooftop and traditional dishes in the evenings in its Morrcan-styled atrium. During the day, we wandered through the Souks absorbing the smells, colors, textures and local culture. We dreamt about it for weeks after returning home.

My first trip to Maui was magical.

The two weeks spent on the Island of Eigg when the kids were young gave me a lot of happy memories but the best may be my recent visits to China.
