Seen any good movies on Netflix lately?

Asked by Kardamom (33297points) June 9th, 2015

I’m looking for some good movies and/or series on Netflix. I love most British dramas, period pieces and/or current stuff. I like mystery series and police dramas; and comedies; and dramas. Quirky stuff is good too (example: Amelie and As It Is In Heaven) and so is animation, as long as it’s really good (examples: The Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Box Trolls).

The stuff doesn’t have to be British, although you know I love it. I like American and Canadian stuff, and I like a lot of foreign movies too, as long as they’ve got decent subtitles that I can actually see on the screen.

I don’t care for shoot-em-up blockbusters, nor do I care for most action-themed movies, most sci-fi (except Star Trek) or potty-mouthed teenage boy humor movies. Here’s some examples of movies and actors I didn’t care for, if this helps: Pulp Fiction, anything with Arnold Swharzenegger, or Chuck Norris, or Will Ferrell. I don’t really care for magical fantasy movies either. I only watched Harry Potter because Alan Rickman is in it and I fast forwarded to his parts, the rest was meh.

Movies, shows and actors that I do like: Benedict Cumberbatch, Downton Abbey, Lost in Translation, Sense and Sensibility, Doc Martin, anything to do with Sherlock Holmes, Michael Caine, Steve Coogan, The King’s Speech, Mrs. Brown, Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, Judi Densch, Ben Kingsley, the Masterpiece Theater mini-series Bleak House, The Murdoch Mysteries, and Call the Midwife.

Got any suggestions?
