Do you find it annoying when the sound on a movie goes from soft to thundering?

Watching The Crown. I’m at my daughter’s and she and the kids have gone to bed. It’s only 8 pm but she gets up early early for work. I’m babysitting tomorrow as her DC provider won’t be available. It’s easiest if I stay the night.
The AC fan is runn_ing loud in here.
Since they are speaking with an accent I have to concentrate more than usual to pick up on it so I’ve turned it up 2 notches from where I started. I thought I was set then suddenly the orchestra is THUNDERING!
Worst of all I have no TV remote so I have to jump for the TV and find the 2 small buttons out of 6 that are obscurly located on the side.
Are the volume changes really necessary for movies?
