Do you find this quote about the two-party system accurate?

Asked by SquirrelEStuff (10007points) October 24th, 2018 from iPhone

“The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies… is a foolish idea. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can throw the rascals out at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.”

In his farewell address, in 1796, George Washington famously warned against forming political parties, for several reasons, but generally as articulated in Quigley’s statement. He would probably be disappointed today.

BTW, It was his farewell address because he voluntarily decided to not run for president again, fearing that it would get people in the habit of imagining the Presidency could be a lifetime appointment. Who would do that today?

Anyone who believe the US has a 2 party system is inaccurate.
