Do you wash plates and silver ware with hot water and soap no matter what they were used for?

Depending on the food, I won’t necessarily wash the dish.
Someone mentioned putting a bagel on a plate, and then having to wash the plate. If I used a plate for a bagel, or toast, I’d just wipe the crumbs off and put the plate away.
If I use a sharp knife to cut a loaf of bread, after I cut it I’d swipe it with a dish towel and throw it back in the drawer.
Do you wash everything, no matter what it’s used for?
