What could be the reason why some people develop martial arts and some don’t?

Just under the impression a lot more popular martial arts seem to originate from Asia….Karate, Judo, Kung-fu…

I took Tae Kwondo because I was athletic and the idea appealed to me.
Of course that has nothing to do with why the martial arts originated in the far east. I guess they are on a whole other spiritual plane.

I think it is because eastern martial arts were passed down in a more egalitarian and systematic fashion, whereas european martial arts were limited to the elites.
A few masters wrote manuals and treatises, many of which got lost.

I prefer the marital arts over the martial arts.
