ive had people tell me that its really annoying. i also do it at all the wrong times, like during a lecture or a movie. i also realize that its something that i have to overcome eventually, so why not overcome it now?

Knuckles and neck I can understand. But how do you crack your toes? Do you go to movies or lectures in bare feet? (Worry beads help.)

pay attention to what you’re doing and stop.

2Mlt_:Aha. I now understand the accessibility but still not the mechanics. I am wearing slides, have long toes and cannot do any amount of manipulation to crack them; whereas, if I wanted to (which I don’t), I could crack my knuckles.

its just the big toe. you jerk it to the side and it should crack.

@jholler: i try to cross my arms or put my hands on my knees, but my hands somehow find a way to get to each other. you also dont need both your hands, i found out. ive also been told that i crack my knuckles in my sleep.

oh god, i have a serious problem

Tell people who complain that it’s just a nervous habit, much like smoking is for some people. Then say incredulously, “You wouldn’t want me to start smoking, would you?”
