Physical Product design terms?

Asked by Jonathan_hodgkins (684points) May 29th, 2020

Where would I find a comprehensive list of design terms for physical products that relate how two parts interact. (examples: this part is Proud of the other, these two parts are press fit). I am just looking for an easier way to talk to others about physical design.

For simplicity, how about accessing a thesaurus? Knowing your audience and facilitating to their level of understanding, maybe? Happy searching!

I think you have to know and understand manufacturing processes rather than having just a list of terms and words without any understanding. Here are some of terms for processes I was involved in Aerospace manufacturing:

Riveted
Sleeved
Swedged
Welded
Brazed
TIG
MIG
Tab locked
Inertial interlock bonding
Bolted
