Does Lexcorp have a point?

Asked by Caravanfan (13530points) January 29th, 2021

Lex Luthor’s overriding goal is to rid the world of the alien menace of Superman.

Sure, the alien menace is Superman who is all boy scout, but what if he weren’t? Also, Superman attracts invincible aliens such as Doomsday and Darkseid, and the resulting fight leaves billions of dollars damage in its wake.

Despite Lex’s methods, doesn’t he have a point? Wouldn’t we be better off without alien ubermenches wreaking havoc? Doesn’t the end justify the means?

No. Superman was an innocent boy sent to earth to save his life and with his superpowers he helps many people. It’s not his fault aliens hunt him. You don’t destroy people/beings, because lunatics from other planets hate them. We just have to get better at fighting the aliens.

The premise of this question is false.

Lex Luthor’s overriding goal is NOT to rid the world of the alien menace of Superman, his overriding goal is to amass all the power in the world. He does not view Superman as an alien menace but as an obstacle to his megalomania.

That is like the “think about the children!” slogan.
It is a feigned justification to obscure his real goal: amassing power.
And it is not even true.
These intergalactic threats exist, regardless of the presence of Superman, which will attack the planet at some point anyway. And without Superman and all the other superheroes on the planet, what will you do then? Sure, Lex built his battle suit, but that could not even stand up to Iron Man, and you all saw how Iron Man got trashed by Thanos, who stood no chance against Darkseid.
So the best course of action is clearly: cultivate your own superheroes, Superman included, and do it like Batman, by cataloguing their weaknesses so you can eliminate them, when necessary.

This is an allegory to contemporary politics.

The Republicans ostensibly want to get rid of South Americans coming across from Mexico to immigrate and work in the US. That’s the story he gave. In reality, as we saw, his policy was to deny ALL immigration from everywhere.

Same principle. Espouse a smaller goal, while keeping your eye on the larger goal.

Perhaps Trump was really Lex Luthor in disguise?

@elbanditoroso I was thinking the Jews, but I guess maybe it could be South Americans too. Actually, the large amount of immigrants during the Trump years were from Central America I think.

@JLeslie pick the group of your choice, the point is still valid.
