What are the rules on being allowed to sue a politician?

In your country and outside?

Has anyone sued a politician? Successfully or not?

In the U .S, anyone can sue anyone else for any reason. There are no limits, except jurisdiction.

@YARNLADY Not exactly. Elected officials have full or qualified immunity and they may assert these privileges as defenses to a suit. You can look that up for more.

In the US, while in the midst of performing their legal obligations, I don’t think you can sue them. E Jean Carroll’s lawyers proved that 45 wasn’t performing his legal obligations when he ran his mouth about her so a judge ruled that she could continue with her lawsuit. Not sure about the laws in Canada.

Politicians have different immunities for the various reasons you might want to sue.

@SnipSnip I believe a suit can still be filed.

@YARNLADY you can always file a lawsuit. Attorneys get sanctioned if they file stupid and outrageous lawsuits.
