Freeware drum program?

Asked by 8lightminutesaway (1419points) September 17th, 2008

I want a free program that I can make drum beats with on my pc. I’ll be adding other instruments on my own, probably with a adobe audition 2.0. Anyone know of anything good?

are there any for windows?

Doesn’t look like it, but VMWare is a viable alternative. Use Ubuntu Studio in VMWare and do your thing from both Linux and Windows. Then you learn a new OS and you get free software (and you can stop using Windows eventually too!)

Fruity Loops is a drumkit program, but super expensive and I never liked the interface.

Got it. Well Linux is the ultimate in free.

true true… I used for one quarter in a class too, but I fear I’ve forgotten most of the commands.

I’m tellin’ you. Ubuntu Studio with either VMWare , VirtualBox , Cooperative Linux or Xen will get you where you need to go.

Here’s a walkthrough on how to do it with virtualbox. There’s even a site that has pre-made virtualbox images for you. Here’s the Ubuntu Studio image.

If you’ve ever used a computer you can use Linux. If you’ve ever used a Mac you’re 10 steps ahead of everyone else. If you’ve ever used a program built with Gnome you’re 20 steps ahead of everyone else. I’m tellin’ ya. It’ll be the best thing you ever did. It’ll solve your drum program issue in less than an hour.
