What technology do you wish was faster?

Like money transfers from a bank to a credit card? Loging on to the internet through a personal computer?

I can’t think of anything.

Tracking down spammers and hackers, just ZAP them!

My internet access is fast again now that I have a new laptop. I’m convinced HP purposely slows down their laptops after a couple of years with an update or virus.

RayaHope's avatar

@JLeslie What did you get? My laptop is HP and it is giving me a headache. :(

@JLeslie The more crap that finds it’s way onto your machine the more background processes are running you don’t need. It’ll look like slow internet but if you run a speed test it’ll be fine. When you find yourself wanting a new machine you may try a new, faster hard drive and a fresh OS. You’ll probably vote to keep the current machine.

@RedDeerGuy1 I don’t think so. This is a distinct change from one day to the next after a couple of years, and stays slow from then on. It’s not so much the internet, but the computer itself. Takes FOREVER to turn on, slower in everything.

@Blackwater_Park Yes, a ton of shit happening in the background from what I can tell, but as I said to RedDeer it’s like it changes suddenly. It happened on my Dell, and happened on my HP.

@RayaHope Another HP, can you believe it?! Lol. It was a great deal through my husband’s company. I opted for the not very expensive one so if it does on a few years I’m not too upset. When I went through the set up my husband told me to agree to let HP have some sort of information they can read or get sent from my laptop. I think that’s a mistake, but I did it.

@JLeslie Oh, lol Mine just gets a long lag that can take forever to turn a page. I was looking at Dell but I am kinda computer illiterate and my mom ain’t much better. My brother knows some stuff but even he don’t know what is causing the lagging :(

That can happen if your internet is slow.

RayaHope's avatar

@RocketGuy But this just started about a month ago. I thought there must be a 1 where a 0 should be :}

Wish my wifi was faster. Some of the longer Fluther threads are giving me dial-up flashbacks.

Battery recharging.

If I haven’t used my laptop for a few days, it will be busy downloading antivirus files and scanning after I turn it back on. Can’t get anything done for 10–15 min. So annoying.

@RocketGuy
Yes I read somwhere a while back that internet provider “Purposely” slows down computers in order that the consummer contacts them and thus they try to upsell to more Gigsbytes.

Also heard the it depends on the use in your community as more is required in some areas at certain times of the day and they lower the other areas that people are not using at that time for a short while.

I noticed this as around 3PM – 5Pm the service is slow.

Quantum Computers will be faster.
“Apparently in the link provided Google had already just achieved Quantum sopremacy using programmable superconducting Processors.”

@Inspired_2write – in my neighborhood, internet providers up the price then coincidentally (sure!) have a faster plan at the same (higher) price. So you end up paying the higher price one way or another.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

We have like five providers competing where I live. You can negotiate prices like talking someone down on the price of a fondue pot at a yard sale.

Should work the same as fish pedicures – just let them do their thing.
