Is being bored a positive sign?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24473points) October 28th, 2023

My doctor shared with me that being bored is a positive sign from being mentally ill.

Can Fluther Jellies elaborate more on this?

I could only guess…why not ask your doc what they meant.

Feeling this way on occasion is perfectly normal. Chronic boredom CAN be a symptom of a deeper issues that needs tending.
Or you are just so brilliant that you need better mind stimulation.

I see.

I would guess that being bored could be a sign that a person is no longer obsessing about everything and is focusing on the outer world, rather than being constantly focused on their own inner world. That would be a good thing.

I know that there have been weeks or months when I was so focused on myself that I couldn’t even pay my bills and didn’t care about anything outside of me. At my worst, I had a stack of unopened bills at least 6 inches high.

Needs facts for context.

My (bi-polar) mother always said ‘Only boring people get bored.) I think it was hee coping mechanism to get herself up and out of depression. :)
