How do I check if a certain port of my router is open?

I’ve been having a little trouble download torrents. I recently switched from uTorrents to Azureus (or Vuze, the new version, which I LOVE). An error message recently popped up and said “You appear to something something firewall something router something check if port something is open something something.” Anyone know how I would go about doing this?
