Do I need Silverlight?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2551points) October 24th, 2008

This is Windows Vista…Sorted by size in control panel/programs, Microsoft Silverlight tops everything with 3.99gb. Do I really need that? Can I uninstall it?

Its MS’s answer to Flash. You probably don’t NEED it now. But if it takes off, someday you may want it. Also I suspect Vista is giving you bad info. I can’t believe Silverlight is almost 4 gig.

I was skeptical at first, but I just looked (on XP) and it’s just as big, I was surprised. But iJimmy pretty much summed it up. I find it useful for some of Microsoft’s websites, but that’s about it :)

If you aren’t short on space, keep it. Some websites (and Internet games) use it to function. If your HHD is on it’s last GBs, delete it. A couple websites won’t function, but most will.

The only thing I’ve ever used Silverlight for is to watch highlights of the Olympics.
