Who is your favorite musical artist, and why?

Asked by chicadelplaya (2218points) November 21st, 2008

My absolute favorite is Ben Harper. I love his music because he blends alternative rock, folk, blues, soul, funk and everything else in between. His songwriting is edgy and real. Ben Harper is a true renaissance man who finds beauty in all places, even in the most mundane aspects of normal everyday life. His music makes a big difference in my life!

Picking favorites are really hard for me. Especially how i am about music. I have a tendency to really get into one artist and just listen to that over and over and then, just move on lol. Then i probably wont listen to them for a while after that. Recently its been Example(good rap) and SlagsmĂ„lsklubben.(so damn happy you cant help but love it for some reason.) Before that i was really into Dan Le Sac Vs ScroobiusPip (another example of great rap. He has this ability to paint pictures and tell a story while still having meaning. Highly recommend. ^_^) Some artists i always come back to and fall in love with again, That1Guy(without a doubt one of my favorite live musicians. Its really something you need to see to understand how awesome he is.) , Buckethead(Another great concert to see. Greatest guitarist IMO. He often plays with That1guy with his opening act and then they jam together at the end which is amazing. To me bucketheads music has this ability to tell these vivid stories, yet no lyrics just guitar. Thats a great musician.) and last mcchris (nerd rap….come on!)

i love these questions where i can share music ^_^

The Killers regained the throne as king with “Human” and is probably one of the best bands during my lifetime.

I love Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam. I just love his voice so much and I love listening to the lyrics cause they always tell such great stories and stuff. I guess growing up on it helps too.

There’s a long list…. at or near the top of which I would put Radiohead, Brian Eno, the Talking Heads, Bjork, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, King Crimson… I also greatly enjoy world music, where musical styles from different cultures blend to create something new and interesing – South Asian techno, for example, or AfroCelt Sound System…. ambient, electronica, anything that involves both the head and the body… (at different times in the past, I was also a fan of Cat Stevens, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult…and still like all of them!)

conor oberst is most definitely my favourite musician. he’s just like a miracle or something to me. the guy’s been writing these heart wrenching songs since he was like 13 years old. i can hardly write a haiku poem now, and he’s been writing these incredible songs since he was like, a pre-teen. and more of them than i can count. he’s just so incredible. and at first his voice just had to grow on me, but now i think his voice has actually dramatically improved haha.
also, chris walla and benjamin gibbard never cease to impress me.

Its a tie
Henry Rollins. He comes at you with spoken word or song and speaks from his heart and mind. I don’t feel many artists do that anymore so i like to follow him.
Rob Zombie. Ether its his solo work or his work while a member of White Zombie or his directing movies but i have never been disappointed with any of his work.

@uberbatman no offence to you, justice or their live shows, but dude! You really have to go see more live shows! Justice is great, but try to attend a big stadium rock gig like AC/DC, Iron Maiden or Metallica. You might not like the music, but the show is worth it!

El_Cadejo's avatar

@wilhel1812 ive been to more concerts than i could ever remember.Everything from your small bar venues to the big stadiums. Im really not a fan of big stadium shows. Its not….intimate?

btw metallica blows.
