I need to re-pimp out my mac in terms of programs, firefox add-ons, bookmarks, anything else cool?

Asked by arcoarena (692points) December 5th, 2008

Unfortunately, I had to re-clean install leopard after some sort of hard drive fail and I need to start over getting programs, firefox add-ons, cool bookmarks, anything else or other recommendations after a fresh install on a macbook.

I realize that there are probably other posts about this but maybe some fresh insight will be good.

Don’t be sparing either please. The only things I’ve re-got so far are firefox, adium, quicksilver, caffeine, and pandoraboy.

Shareware, freeware, something cool…anything is great!

I’m not on Windows but I think Firefox extensions work on Mac as well, so here are some of my favorite add-ons:

Adblock
All-in-One Sidebar
Compact Menu 2
CustomizeGoogle
Download Statusbar
DownThemAll!
dragdropupload (drag and drop from open folder to “browse…” bars in websites)
ErrorZilla Plus
Fast Dial
Faviconize Tab
feedly (organize feeds in a newspaper-type layout)
Fission
Flagfox
Foxylicious
Google Icon
Google Gears
Greasemonkey (the scripting engine to modify webpages)
LastPass (password manager, encrypted, integrates with all current passes and syncs between computers)
Linkification
Locationbar^2 (stylized location bar)
Menu Editor
NoScript
Organize Status Bar
PDF Download
PermaTabs Mod (permanent tabs refitted for Firefox 3)
Searchbar Autosizer
Stylish (change CSS of webpages, tweak Firefox interface)
Tab Mix Plus
Taboo
translator
Ubiquity
URL Fixer

Also, there is this experimental extension called Tabgroups-Plus that allows you to organize open tabs into folders. However, it is experimental and I’m not going to recommend it unless you want to try it on your own accord.

Bolded are the ones I favor the most, and why.

wow thanks! i will be checking out all of those so I will be back on track.

I already got adblock. I forgot how annoying the internet can be without it. haha

also, if you don’t have download helper I would check that out (allows you to download videos from youtube, music from myspace, and download embedded files from many other sites as well.) and stumbleupon extension can kill hours just finding cool stuff for you to do on the internet!

they are amazing firefox extensions. thanks again!

and foxytunes allows you to control itunes from firefox but i think that sometimes will make the browser lag so i don’t always keep that running

I picked up dozens of Firefox add-ons from a disk glued to Maximum PC magazine and others. They’re always in mags.
