Do you have a special insite into flood prevention/protection?

Asked by nick_horslen (1points) December 19th, 2008

Would you know of http://www.fluvial-innovations.co.uk/ or similar systems? What is your experience, have they worked, been worth the investment, do you know of information on the web which shows where and how they have been used successfully around the world? Thank you!

All I know about flood protection is that when you think you will be flooded, you can put the legs of all your furniture up on Mardi Gras cups. Either that will totally protect them or the water is going to be so high, you’re screwed anyway. That’s all I know.

On their website, they say that “FLOODSTOP is a direct substitute for sandbags”. I think that I’d rather have the sandbags – cheaper, and you do not have to store them in the same way that you would have to store the plastic Floodstops.

How about creating a permanent berm in your yard? You could leave an opening in it for normal drainage, then just plug the opening with bags when the water rises.

We have storm surge where I live so those wouldn’t really work. We have different codes for our houses here where the bottom of the house just washes out. Those seem to be for minimal flooding. I would only buy them if it knocked money off of my insurance.
