How do I heat soy milk?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) December 24th, 2008

I want to make myself a soy chai but I don’t have an espresso machine. Can I heat the soy milk in a pan on the stove just like I would regular milk? Are there any tricks I should know?

I find heating it slowly and stirring helps. If it gets too hot and boils it can separate into strange clumps and look gross. You might try heating it with the chai spices in it until it looks right but hasn’t boiled and then strain it before drinking.

I would use a double boiler for best result.

I’ve always microwaved with good results.

I live on Soy Chai. My wife and I make it all the time at home. I add the chai and soy milk and then heat in the microwave for 80 seconds. Then stir and enjoy.

Silk® has chai flavored soy milk. It’s not bad for a quick fix, but I prefer a stronger flavor. I simmer it slowly, stirring often. If you don’t stir it enough, it curdles. It still tastes fine curdled, but you need to strain the skin off of it.
