If you were going to prison and could choose between general population and solitary, which would you choose?

purely hypothetical, of course. general population: more access to recreation, visits from friends and family, but riskier to your person in the form of gangs and enemies having access to you. solitary: more protection, but less access to recreation, reading materials, visits from friends and family, more lonely existence. answer as if you were going to be in prison a long time.
