Morning Chorus?

Asked by rickpoll (143points) February 11th, 2009

why do the birds start singing in the dark at this time of year (UK) it is truly beautiful but I wonder if they can’t sleep? They were singing in full chorus at 0530 this morning.

I know what you mean. I love birds but when that certain time of year hits and they keep inturrupting my sleep, I keep fantasizing about buying a BB gun or something.

I once heard what i thought was a nightingale just as i was dropping of to sleep, it was a little spooky but beautiful!

I once heard (so I don’t know if it is true) but birds sing in the morning to welcome the sun, (night time is very dangerous for birds, that’s when the predators are out) and at night, their singing at dusk is to bemoan the fact that the sun is going down (going away). Animals are more aware of the environmental changes than humans, so this sort of explains that, but like I said, it could just be BS.
