Cause there’s always new goals to reach and more to do. There is no set path. And there are millions of people you can meet.

It’s fun, and depending on how you play can be the same game every time or a new one every day.

That’s all. :)

That study is a crock in my opinion. Yeah WoW is fun and definitely can suck up thousands of hours of your time, but your body doesn’t develop a chemical dependency to it like crack, you don’t see people’s bodies falling apart when they don’t get to play WoW, etc.

But, the appeal is a lot of things. It’s a huge world to explore, there are always new places to see and new places to go, they keep adding more all the time too.

You take a character from level 1, barely able to kill a boar, to level 80 where you are killing huge dragons and bosses with 4 – 24 other people.

You acquire new gear from these dungeons which make your character more powerful.

You make friends online through guilds or just random groups. Or you play with existing friends as a way to socialize.

You play against other people in direct combat in battlegrounds with objectives like capture the flag or to hold a certain number of strategic points the longest.

The game never ends. Even if you beat the hardest boss in the game, you keep beating him over and over to get the best gear drops for your character. Then in a few months a new, harder dungeon comes out to give you another goal to work towards.

Basically it all boils down to presenting people with obtainable goals (levels, gear, beating dungeons, gold, etc) and then rewarding them for achieving those goals, immediately.

I played WoW for 3 years. I only did crack for 6 months.

You do the math.

WoW has never been classed or classified as being more addictive than crack, so you should start by realizing your assumption is wrong. As well, in my mind it seems very implausible that one could become “addicted” to WoW in the same vein as being addicted to crack or cocaine or other drugs which actually create bodily addiction and physical withdraw when removed.

As for why players of WoW play the game constantly, I believe it has to do with the social aspects of the game, being in a guild, being a part of a team.

Also note, many other people are “addicted” to many other types of games, but we don’t hear about the Tetris Epidemic now do we? It’s easy to pick on WoW because everyone knows it or is at least familiar with it, so TV and newspapers delight in passing on such “scientific studies” or “conclusions” because they are only interested in ratings, not in passing on verified information.

Idk I played for a few months and I really want to play again but my laptop kept crashing because of it, so hopefully ill get a desktop soon. it’s just really fun to be honest, it’s like your little baby, you want to keep helping him and making them stronger and helping them lvl, and keep them looking awesome. It’s hard to explain, just play you won’t regret it

All I know is, my husband could play it every night for hours. I never really understood the appeal, but he enjoyed it…it’s not like it is crack ;)

Even though the game is generally referred to as “World of Warcrack.”

It’s not that addicting really I mean I played it for a year and loved it was forces to quit but really wasn’t a big deal… I recently started playing again and I do spend time on it but I’ll go on trips for two weeks and have no problems… As for why someone would find it fin is that not only is there so much to explore and do in the world as one character you also have different classes and different styles of play…like being a ranged or melĂ©e class being a tank healer or DPS…
