The 88s…I’m not sure how big they are because they’re pretty local to my area. But look ‘em up!

Streetlight Manifesto! My boyfriend got me into them and they are awesome!

Operation Ivy, they are more ska/punk, but they are awesome.

always refer to “the police” with sting and stewart copeland from the 80s. ska was happening in that decade fer sure.

If you want to start from the beginning, check out anything on Studio One Records:

These are all amazing Studio One compilations.

The Specials, of course.

Old Dance Hall Crashers stuff was great. The first album rules…highly recommended. Tim and Matt from Operation Ivy were in it for a while.

In high school I dated a guy who LOVED ska, and his favorite ska band was the Blackouts – although I think there are a few bands that go by that name. The Blackouts that he listened to were from Rochester, NY. If you can find it, definitely listen to “Stop That Crazy Dance.” (Anyone know if I’m allowed to upload/link that song…?)

He also listened to Mustard Plug, the Pietasters, the Planet Smashers, Rancid… Although is Rancid really ska? I’m not sure. Haha. Time Bomb is all I have on my computer and it sounds very ska-like so you’d probably like it. :)

the specials, the aquabats, bad manners, cocksparrer, common riders, big d and the kids table, meet me at the pub, mustard plug, reel big fish… just a few for ya

Get yourself some old Desmond Dekker for sure too!

tim armstrong (solo), the slackers, mustard plug, rancid has ska influences but i think they’re more ‘punk’ than ska, the aggrolites, bedouin soundclash, the pietasters, king django, westbound train, dave hillyard and the rocksteady 7, streetlight manifesto, dan potthast’s bands (he has like a billion side projects), catch 22, reel big fish, less than jake

i don’t know how strictly ska my recommendations are, but try em out (:

Ooh I’d say special aka the beat (also known as the English beat) early madness.

I wouldn’t count the police as ska. More “White man reggae” as Mick Jones once described it.
