I used to have one that we allowed to roam freely. (he was a fab little fellow that peed only in his cage;).

To get food, he would HIDE in the kitchen for looooooooong periods of time under our island. Waiting!!! When you’d go in and open the fridge, he’d LEAP in. And, occasionally would land in “guinea pig heaven” aka: the veggie drawer

Cuddles was a sweetie.

Now, our Glinda….squeals with delight when ever she hears the veg bags moving around.

My daughter’s guinea pig will start “talking” around the same time, every afternoon. She knows when her treats will be arriving. She squeaks away and runs in circles.

Now…if she’s getting the occasional yogurt bite, the pig goes crazy.

What we love the most about her, is this odd friendship between her and our big dog, Dakota. DaKota will actually let Ella (the pig) sleep next to her. DaKota has to check on Ella throughout the day, it’s part of her watch over the house. It’s pretty sweet.

@Marina They are very sweet.
I’ve had over a dozen (more if you count the days I bred them as a pre-teen/teen) as pets. I highly recommend a pure bred Peruvian, for great health and temperament…but have had a mix of them all and loved everyone!

@cak One of our dog’s had a short life span. We could tell she would’ve liked to have been a mama. So, we bought her, her very own piggy to keep and love. And, she did JUST that. It was her baby. She kissed and cuddle her, and ran to her whenever she’d squeal. It was a touching relationship to witness.

@Spatzie – oh….how sweet!

They truly are great pets. I didn’t think I really wanted one, again – but my daughter said that was the only thing she wanted for her birthday…now 2 years ago. She is just the cutest little thing. Bossy at times, but cute. :)

@cak I didn’t want one again (we have many pets, like you). But, my mom had brought home an orphaned rabbit from the property she manages. I thought he’d make it, but wound up having some neurological trouble that wasn’t noticed until he grew. Needless to say, my three year old was attached to “Gus” by this time and was saddened by his passing. I thought it was best to bring in a guinea pig, as this was our secong rabbit death in one year (son was also VERY attached to our pet rabbit that had died a few months earlier). He loves his “Glindie”!

@A_Beaverhausen Thanks for the lurve and the question. Maybe it’ll make someone consider a guinea pig for their family…instead of one other irrational “Easter Pets” like a duckling or chick, so many “spring” upon their kids.
