General Question

If you mark a question as "stop following", and someone in that thread directs a comment to you, will you still get it under your "Activity for you"?

No. Once you stop following a question, you won’t get any activity from it.

Neat idea, though.

My personal practice is to keep following everything, unless it becomes particularly noisy. I find it pretty easy to keep up.

@ben Tnx! Although….boo! :)
I didn’t get a notice that you just answered this Q – probably just a glitch?
:)

It’s different here, Jelly…..you won’t get specific notices that they’ve replied to you…

I usually stop following a question after I am no longer interested and don’t care if someone responds to something I’ve said or I feel like the question has been answered and there is not much more to discuss.

Now, this is strange…I didn’t click on “follow this question” but I’m getting hits on it on my activity page….

If you answer a question, you automatically follow it.

@JellyB You probably didn’t get a notice because you had the page open at the time (?) and were observing? Or, you did get a notice, but didn’t see it, and when you clicked on your own question, it erased the link.

Tnx everybody! :)

No, there is no reply notification system. This is probably the thing I miss most.

JellyB's avatar

@Ivan Indeed…among other things… :/

@JellyB Watch out though, they are watching you.

@Ivan LOL! It sure feels that way…just expecting someone to pounce on you when you ask a wrong q or make an off topic comment somewheres… tee hee! ;)

I’ve never had a problem with this. If I answer a question and I’m not sure whether I want to follow a question, I usually follow it for a day or two just to make sure no one had a response to my question. Then unfollow. This system works.

JellyB's avatar

@Trustinglife I know, but somewhere along the line, after i’ve unfollowed, someone may make an interesting comment to me and i’d miss it….

Ah. The other thing is that I rarely unfollow a question – after a day or two, activity usually dries up. It’s actually usually more work to unfollow, since the activity usually is no more.

I’ve made many site suggestion improvements, and the ones I couldn’t do on my own (create a separate group photo page), generally didn’t happen. Mostly people really like the site the way it is. My suggestion: if you’re really concerned about missing a response to you, simply don’t unfollow questions. Every day or two, open all your activity and make a quick scan for your username. That should do it. Welcome!

@Trustinglife I suppose….my inbox doesn’t seem to be overflowing with comments from threads that i haven’t unfollowed and have no interest in anymore…i suppose i’ll survive… ;P

And tnx! :)
