Which are your favourite films Directors for the Gothic, Fantasy & Intellectual Genres?

Spontaneously, only Tim Burton comes to mind.

I don’t know any off the top of my head… but I agree with you, Anatelostaxus, about Guillermo del Torro. Just recently watched that film, and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the blend of the grotesque and the bitter-sweet fairy-tale qualities. : )

This might take a bit to consider, but I am leaning to Peter Jackson, who did the Lord of the Rings movies, or Alex Proyas, who directed Dark City, I Robot, and Knowing.
