Non-dairy goat cheese? WTF?

Asked by La_chica_gomela (12574points) June 15th, 2009

So, I was reading a recipe that called for “sweet grass dairy goat cheese” (all in lower case just like it’s written here) and my first thought was “dairy goat cheese?” That seems so redundant! Of course goat cheese is going to be dairy, right?

What do you think is going on with this recipe? I can’t decide if it’s
a) just redundant
b) there is such a thing as non-dairy goat cheese
c) it’s an error in the copy: i.e. the original writer was referring to a brand, such as Sweet Grass Dairy (brand) goat cheese, but the copy editor didn’t understand and changed it to lower case
d) something else

Any ideas?
