Any simple P2P opensource library to use?

I need to do some experiments on a very basic and simple P2P network. Is there any place where I can find free source codes to extend the P2P network and run my experiments on the.

With out more details this is a hard question to answer. If you are down with Python you can get the source to Bittorrent. Source

Bittorent code would be too complicated. It has lots of complex features.
Anything smaller and simpler? All I need is an ability to internetwork peers together and exchange information.
