Can you restore a movie back into your iPod once it's been deleted?

Asked by Tink (8673points) August 1st, 2009 from iPhone

I bought a movie that came with a “DisneyFile digital copy”
I installed it onto the iPod then deleted it a few days later because it was taking up too much room.
I tried putting it back but it wouldn’t let me, it said the “code” had already been redeemed.
So can I put it back in there some other way?

You should still have it in iTunes on your computer. If not, there is a way to re-download content you have already bought or in this case, redeemed. I believe you click your account email address in the top right and theres an option for that. Then just sync to the ipod.

@styfle I tried it but it doesn’t appear there either, when I took it out I deleted it from iTunes and on the left side it comes out and I try dragging it to videos but it doesn’t come out.

Yeah well you don’t drag it. To sync anything to an ipod you have to connect the device and then it will appear on under “Devices” which should be below Library but above Playlists. Click on the ipod and you’ll get a new screen with a bunch of tabs. Go to movies or videos and check the box for that video. Then click apply to sync those settings. If the movie is not on your computer the click “itunes store” and on the top right you’ll see your email addess. Click it and then you’ll enter you account. The first option says “downloads available for itunes” and a number. Click “download now” to download them to your computer.

Haha yeah I plug it in the computer first, the movie wasn’t bought in iTunes though.

Well it was redeemed in itunes which is the exact same thing according to your account. Did you even try what I said?

@styfle :: Some DVD’s come with a digital copy that itunes will pull in when you put it in your computer. It asks for a code when you do this. I think this is what Tink is dealing with.

Tink, your best bet might be to just rip the DVD using handbrake.

Tink's avatar

Yes exactly what @johnpowell said, sorry if I wasn’t clear enough.
@johnpowell So thats the only way?

jrpowell's avatar

@Tink1113 :: Probably the easiest way. And It might not be a bad idea to learn how to do it for other DVD’s you might want to convert and put on your iPod.

styfle's avatar

I misunderstood. This wasn’t redeemed via itunes, it was redeemed by disney’s own thingy. http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/disneyfile/textonly.html
You never answered if the digital video is still on your computer…is it?

Tink's avatar

@johnpowell Ha thanks!! I’ll try it tomorrow. Can you only put DVD’s that come with the digital copy though?

Tink's avatar

@styfle No I took out the cd already

Wait…I was right.
“How many times can I transfer my DisneyFile Digital Copy?

For the Windows Media version you can only transfer your DisneyFile Digital Copy to your computer once. After you transfer the movie to your computer, you can then transfer the movie to your compatible portable device. For the iTunes version, standard iTunes usage rules apply.

It was downloaded via itunes store which means you can download it again. Just log into your account like I said. Anyway, I’m going to bed.

@johnpowell I don’t have a Mac though, I have windows vista
@styfle I am logged in and it didn’t appear dude!

The software works on Windows too. The directions are the same.

The screenshot is just what it looks like on a Mac.

Oh ok thanks!

I downloaded Handbreak but when I put the DVD in the “source” it took forever and then it said it wasn’t able to because the movie was copy protected and it didn’t let me do it.
