Anyone know how to change brakes of a 2005 VW Jetta?

Asked by kelly8906 (340points) August 20th, 2009

My dad is trying to change the brakes on my car. It’s a 2005 VW Jetta. He is trying to get the caliper bolts off and can’t. Does anyone know what size allen wrench or other tool is needed to do this? We can’t seem to find one that will take the bolts off. Please help if ya know anything. Thanks :)

By the way, I need to change the front and rear brakes. We have only looked at the front ones so far.

I’m going to put on my “asshole” hat for a minute.

Do you really want someone that is unable to remove your old brakes to put on your new ones? These are the brakes on your car. Drop the 200$ and have someone else do it.

I want to say 8mm.

My father does practically all my mechanic work, he’s not a mechanic…been trained and has a passion for it though. If your father doesn’t know what he’s doing, maybe you should get a professional to do it.

German made cars are different then American made. My dad is fully capable of doing it or I wouldn’t have him do it. Plus, I dont have 200 dollars. :)

Jettas (I’ve owned one) have proprietary tools.
