What is the best local SIM card in Egypt?

Asked by hoiioh (34points) August 23rd, 2009

I’m moving to Cairo in the coming days. I own a blackberry Storm, which i just recently unlocked for foreign SIM use. I would love to get data service in Egypt, however I’m sure it will not be easy to accomplish cheaply. So I’m wondering what brands I should look into when i get over there. I would like it to work in Cairo, Lux, and Alex.

Follow up question: Not sure if i should post another ‘thread’ about this but i was wondering since I’ll be gone for four months if i should suspend my Verizon number (which is attached to a family plan still), and if there is any disadvantages to doing so.

Thanks

Hey there

I have an apartment in Egypt an my parents grew up there, I live in the US

so when going to Egypt, we get a cell phone since we stay for like two months. We get vodafone, it’s really nice and we’ve never had any issues with it. We also use it in other countries we go to. However the “country” provider is Mobinil. My grandfather uses it and he hasn’t complained, so in reality I don’t think there’s a difference, however mobinil may be cheaper but I could be wrong, you will also see lots of billboards for mobinil

but I would believe vodafone is the more modern service

have fun in Egypt and don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything, I’m best contacted at Twitter.com/bluedoggiant if u have a Twitter but a comment does fine too :) :p
