I think Hitler and Germany were mostly the catalyst for igniting the worst conflict the world has ever known. I’m still astonished and can hardly believe all of the casualties also. It is a very sad chapter in world history.

60 Million is unbelievable. In context that is the entire population of the UK

I think it was the England not Britain , And i thought Germany started both WW1 and WW2

Afternoon my Scotish friend….....you are trying to bait me but will not bite.My Grandad actually died in the war and was in the Scots Guards.

@Unit, you have it backwards. Germany rolled through most of Europe. England declared war to honor it’s diplomatic alliance with Poland. England did not ignite a conflict, but rather stood up to a bully holding a book of matches. The conflict was ignited long before England stepped into the fray.

we did ignite it my declaring war on Germany and glad we did so. But the question is not how and why it started, but the shocking statistics of how many died

sandystrachan's avatar

It was England who wanted to stand up to the Germans , the Germans started the thing over greed and hate . Power hungry Germans , sad to see an Englishperson trying to claim his country started it . It is not bait my fellow flutherite it was fact , England didnt start it Germany did .

Im not claiming we started it you fool(mr t’s words not mine)
You indeed seen very anti-English and a typical hostile sweaty.

sandystrachan's avatar

Even if i was anti-English/England that wouldn’t come into it , Ignite kindof means to start the flame that made it happen . And thats how i read your Q. . “Britian declared war” . So you did claim you/we started it

Sarcasm's avatar

@sandystrachan And i thought Germany started both WW1 and WW2 back to school!

WWI started when a Serbian nationalist assassinated Austria-Hungary’s heir, Franz Ferdinand.

How could you forget a fact so clearly relevant to your everyday life? Golly

No doubt Sandystrachan lives in Scotland then, have they just not released the Lockerbie bomber from prison???? Great work…....................not

sandystrachan's avatar

@OreetCocker Keep it on subject eh…..... And it was the government not Scotland who let him go all helped with English government even tho they say they never tightened the strings

[mod says] Lets stick to the topic, and not get personal about it.

OreetCocker's avatar

@sandystrachan And by the same token it was the English government and not England. Separating England from Britain when there is no apparent need is just pedantic!!

OreetCocker's avatar

@augustlan Sorry, but I was using the example to highlight how such a trifling correction could incense people when there was no real need!
