Copyright law and slide scanning?

A client of mine is looking to have some of her artwork photographed, but she also has some slides she had professionally done of other pieces.
There is no contract for the previous work, and the photographer’s only requirement was to be credited if the images were published, etc.
Along with photographing her newer works, I’ve offered to scan the older slides to get her digital files from them. Neither of us are entirely clear on the copyright basis for converting the analog slides into digital files.
Anyone know what applies here?
