Have social networking sites replaced chat rooms (like the ones on AOL)?

Asked by norah (244points) October 14th, 2009

Wondering if there’s anything that organized anymore, or if everyone’s on fb and the other social networking sites.

Chat rooms? I haven’t been in one for years now, those seem so ancient to me now. But, yea I would assume the majority of people now just use Facebook and stuff to do instant chatting. Google Wave also looks like it’ll be a great chat room replacement.

I think so. I haven’t used a chat room since I got on the social networking sites and sites like Fluther. I’ve never even been to the Fluther chat room. but then again i’m not a bad kid, lol

Do you count IRC? Thats still quite popular. I’d have to agree, though, that sites like facebook and twitter are much more popular than chatrooms.
