What do you think of 'Balloon Boy'?

Asked by rangerr (15765points) October 16th, 2009

Cute, little Falcon.
Do you think his parents are to blame for this stunt?
Or do you think it was a legit accident?

What a load of crap that was, it made the morning news here, my wife was practically yelling at the TV “This isn’t news, he was never in the fucking balloon!!”

This is news

can’t fly

@RareDenver I hadn’t heard the baby was okay until well after I saw that video. It scared the hell out of me.

RareDenver's avatar

@rangerr even though I knew the kid was fine I still felt sick watching it, kinda like holding my breath, that poor woman must have been freaking out

@RareDenver
thank the engineers for designing the train with enough cround clearance.

I think he doesn’t deserve the title “Balloon Boy”. He was never in the damn balloon.

This headline worried me today Balloon boy gets note from Queen then I read the story and sighed relief

@RareDenver Ohmygoodness. That is adorable.

@Les These two make me laugh too.

I think the parents did this as a media stunt.

I think the parents should have been watching their children more carefully with a hot air balloon in the yard. Telling a 6 year old to simply stay away from it is not sufficient.

I also think the parents should have searched the house before calling in the authorities or at least repeatedly during the search.

@RedPowerLady Have you seen the video of Falcon saying that his parents told him they did it “for the show”?

RedPowerLady's avatar

@rangerr Haven’t seen the video but I did hear all about it on the other thread that was running yesterday. Seems to confirm my beliefs. I can see how a child would get confused and say that mistakenly but in this case I think it is clear proof that it was for media attention because the rest of the story points that way as well.

rangerr's avatar

@RedPowerLady I didn’t see the other thread. My bad.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@rangerr No problem. It happens all the time on Fluther and it seems people are still interested in discussing the topic. I sure the heck didn’t mind responding :)

rangerr's avatar

@RedPowerLady That makes me feel better. And I think the family should definitely have to pay for the search costs if it was a hoax. Even if it wasn’t, they should still have to.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@rangerr Ya the family deserves some type of fine. But the police should have searched the house before doing anything else, I think they are a bit at fault for not doing that.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

It took a suspciously long time to discover the boy was at home.
If my boy was missing, I’d scour the house immediately.

Well, at least he wasn’t eaten by a dingo…

Must have been a poor news day. The father seems certifiable!

Likeradar's avatar

I think it might have been some kind of hoax. That family has been on Wife Swap twice, so clearly they they seek out media attention. Their prior TV performance combined with the kid’s comment seems fishy to me.

@TCH They claim they did search the house, and so did the police. The kid would have had to shimmy up pipes to get to his hiding spot…

RedPowerLady's avatar

@Likeradar Ya but if my kid was missing I’d break down the walls searching for him.

Likeradar's avatar

@RedPowerLady I agree… the whole thing seems off somehow.

NewZen's avatar

OKAY – I THINK THAT WHOLE FAMILY’S HAD THEIR 15 MINUTES…!!!; MOVING ON NOW

El_Cadejo's avatar

I didnt hear about this until just now. After reading a couple articles/watching the videos, i think its a load of shit.
