What is the name of that easy computer backup lollipop device that's advertised on TV?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) October 29th, 2009

Okay…this is like a needle in a haystack.

At some point a few months ago, and I can’t remember if it was in the US or UK…I was up late and saw a late-night ad for a little device to backup your computer files and transfer them.

It was one of those “loud-talking” ads that kept saying “and its soooo easy to use” and it did look like a totally relatively non-computer literate person like me could use it easily to backup and store files. It was a little lollipop type of device, I think as it was small and portable not a honking box.

I’d like to try to find it…it had the name of an animal or something zingy…like “Barracuda” or “Piranha” or “Saquatch” (okay, maybe not that)...

A super Flutherite (PD) is helping me figure out what is going on with the hard drive, but now I need to see if I can save some of the stuff in it….

If you know of another device that is just as easy to use…please let me know….but I just thought that one looked simple.

Tossing this question out into the sea of fluther…..hoping someone will answer….

Thanks so much!

Well, there is a Barracuda backup, but that looks like an online backup, not an external harddrive for you personally.

edit: I’ve never seen commercials for Barracuda though. I have seen commercials for Mozy, the service @patg7590 mentions, but I believe that’s another online backup.

Thanks for the answers so far….but it is not an online service. It is a small device that you plug into the USB port and it stores your hard drive on there..and then you can transfer it.

“Barracuda” is not it…then. It had some sort of late night zingy yowza name…:)

Still looking…..but I thank you for the suggestions! Really appreciate that.
