Is there a way to get a visual representation of wireless networks ?

Asked by iwamoto (5277points) November 11th, 2009

I was wondering if there’s an App. (not platform dependent) that let’s me draw out a map of wireless networks in the area, not sure if it’s even possible (position triangulation etc), but at least something that shows me an approx. distance would be great, so, if anyone knows something about anything, i’d be glad to hear it.

There used to be an App that would show Wireless connections in the area but i can not remember the name of it, the GUI was a little radar and would “Bleep” when it found one. But it sounds like you are looking for something different as your actually looking for networks, which sounds a bit Black Hat-ish to me…

nah, it’s not for anything like that (otherwise i’d just use backtrack 4) but i’m rather just curious where some of the networks in my area are located, something like a little radar sounds like the thing to me.

@iwamoto HAHA!! I gotta ask, is Backtrack 4 any good? I haven’t messed with Back Track since version 2 when i ran it in a Virtual Environment..Btw i will look around on my other pc today and see if i can find it..

it’s pretty decent, i don’t use it all that much though, usually when i’m watching Hak5 i get some pretty good ideas but they never come to fruition.

So about that app…

I found it, it’s called Easy Wifi Radar, it’s probably not what your looking for though, as it only shows Wifi spots, it does work though, i have trolled and used it before and stumbled across actual networks..
