Anyone read Ian Fleming (James Bond) novels?

Asked by ShiningToast (2108points) November 29th, 2009

I’ve been looking for a good series of books to read after chewing through the Dune saga for the umpteenth time. I’ve heard good things about Ian Fleming’s old Bond novels. So far I have Casino Royale on my list, any other ones that are pretty good?

Dune. Science fiction. Have you read Orson Scott Card, Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams, or Terry Pratchett?
I’m not a big science fiction type, but my fiance is.

I love Orson Scott Card and Adams, they are two of my favorite authors, but I haven’t read any Asimov, though I intend to. Who is Pratchett?

You might enjoy Michael Moorcock and his Cornelius Quartet. Although it’s not his best-known work, so you may want to look at his other stuff, too.

Sorry, I don’t know anything about Ian Fleming.

I loved all of Ian Fleming’s James Bond books. Then I realized he was a sexist pig so I didn’t like them as much after that!

Have you ever read Richard Russo, he reminds me of Updike, his characters are all pretty believable. And I have always enjoyed Grisham, and for the weird stuff, you can’t beat Dean Koontz. If you want to try something from an aussie author, Tim Winton is great.

I’ve read a lot of James Bond novels, but only a few were written by Ian Fleming. I don’t think I liked Fleming’s novels that much because I can’t even remember which ones they were that I read. Which is kind of ironic, I guess.

I read From Russia, With Love (for school) and it was an ok “spy/thriller” novel.

Here is something you may want to look into: Every Hugo Award winner/nominee since 1946.

The Hugo Awards are given every year for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year.

You might also enjoy looking into the Nebulae as well.

I think you will be reading for some time. :D

I have read the novels and short stories about 007 by Ian Fleming. I have also seen later ones by Kingsley Amis, John Gardner and Raymond Benson. I hear that a few other men have written 007 novels as well, but I have not seen them. I suppose I would read them in order of writing. “Casino Royale” was the first novel in the series, and “The Man With the Golden Gun” was last. There are some short stories. “For Your Eyes Only” is a short story collection he offered rather than a novel in 1960.
