Have you ever tried any detox programs or regimes?

Asked by Oceanflower (192points) December 15th, 2009

I would like to kick start a healthier eating lifestyle with a good detox program. Just wondering if anyone could recommend any or have any favourite resources such as books or websites . Also some type of willpower strengthening program would be great, just to help me stick to it.

i tried the Master Cleanse. My brother enjoys it so I thought i’d give it a try. well, i lasted 8 hours and was too hungry to take much more so i ate. but the drink isn’t bad. it’s lemon juice, maple syrup, water, and cayenne pepper. pretty tasty actually. but yeah, i can’t do them.

if you need your will strengthening then see your doc for a checkup, it will work both ways, if youre all aok then that will give you incentive to stay that way and as for any warnings, that should help you on the straight and narrow, theres nothing worse than doubt.

@deni I’ve tried that also…it’s way to hard to stick too!! I think I lasted half a day…hehe!

I’m lazily doing this one now. I think it’s an excellent program if done correctly.

I did the Cabbage Soup detox before I started dieting this summer. It felt great. Like I said, it’s a DETOX. Do not do it for more than 5 days.

You basically make a big pot of cabbage soup (yum) and you can eat as much of it as you want. I mixed curry into mine.

On top of that, you have certain “days” (soup can be had everyday)
One day you eat nothing but fruit, then veggies, then steak, etc.
Do that for 5 days.

I lost a good couple of pounds and then I jumped into my high protein diet and lost 20 pounds easily…and I’m insulin resistant so it’s hard to lose for me. :)

@Oceanflower LOL, I forgot about the photos. Sorry about that. I guessed they slipped my mind because I’m not at all squeamish and a bit gross :P

@seekingwolf How can 5 days worth of detox clear out a lifetime of junk and toxins? Yes, I am being facetious.

@Facade

haha obviously :)

I never thought of it “cleaning out toxins”, just a jumpstart to a new diet. Eating healthy from the get-go really makes you feel good and motivated!

@seekingwolf Ah, I see. And congrats on your weight loss :)

@seekingwolf Yes…That would be a good kick start…I know the one you mean is there a website with the recipe for the soup?

if you eat and drink good then youll not have anything to worry about. anything that suggests vegetables or high fibre can only be good, remember that water is essential for healthy metabolism , always be hydrated. avoid expensive detox regimes that claim to flush heavy metals, theyre in you for life im afraid, see a professional through your doc! its a lot cheaper!

@Facade aww thanks :D still losin!

@Oceanflower
Yes it was a great kickstart. Unfortunately, I don’t know of a site that has a recipe. My mother made the soup for the both of us. She used Swanson Chicken Stock, cabbage, celery, carrots, etc. omg so good, esp with some curry.

My daughter went thru a good detox program. It was called “Clean up, or your ass will be in jail”. It worked, and she has been clean 7 or 8 years.

there is a diet called souper soup that will clean you out, if you follow it exactly. It is a week on, three off, thing that you can lose easily ten pounds. The soup can be used in conjunction with regular eating to off set meals during “off” time

Yes…I tried the olive oil and lemon juice liver and gallbladder flush.

Well dont fall for the acai berry and the colon cleanse thing everyone is raving about. Unless you are just into having diarrhea, which by the way does not induce the loss of weight. You will lose fluids the first week, but you can do that with a stomach virus. But it comes right back as soon as you eat and they say they eat all they want. I have tried it twice now thinking the first time that maybe I didnt watch my diet well enough. Same results both times and I am not the only one to say that. Seems like all the hipe is by a few people that I have actually seen their pictures on other weight loss products. And don’t fall for the Nutra System or Jenny Craig, that Marie Osmond says she lost all that weight doing. DID SHE FORGET WE ALL WATCHED HER SHRINK ON DANCING WITH THE STARS WHERE EVERYONE LOSES 40–50 LBS IF THEY ARE THE LEAST BIT OVER WEIGHT. If we all worked out for 8 – 10 hrs a day dancing we would shrink also. If ya just want a good cleaning out, get a bottle of Milk of Mag and take it every day for a week. That is a natural, no chemical, cleanser if there ever was one.
