Canon Pixma MP220 wont scan, any help? (Details inside)

Asked by ModernEpicurian (1638points) December 16th, 2009

My girlfriend has a Canon Pixma MP220 printer and scanner. It believes itself to be out of ink (it isn’t), but that isn’t the big problem, we could really do with it scanning, but it wont allow that because it believes itself to have no ink.

Does anyone know of a work-around that might help? Or just have any clever ideas as to what I should do?

All help appreciated!

Unfortunately, you have to get new ink. A lot of the time the computer chip in the ink goes bad and there is nothing to do but buy a new cartridge… It happened to me and there are quite a few online forums complaining about the issue. Sometimes they are bad before you even use them so save your receipt. Also, you can buy a new cartridge then turn around and take back the bad one in place of the new one and just say it didn’t work… kinda shady, but after buying the ink over and over for the same problem – you can rationalize it with your conscience/morals.

Give this a try, it has helped me before—click start go to settings, click on your printer, properties, maintenance, then click on any of the cleaning tools. If one of your cartridges is not working, may I suggest using the deep cleaning tool, if that does not help, then use the other cleaning options. I hope this helps…good luck.
