Can you fill me in on Dexter? SPOILER ALERT!

Asked by eLenaLicious (822points) December 16th, 2009

Well, my dad has just finished watching the season finale of Dexter and recently informed me something about the Trinity killer murdering Rita? Is that true?
Please tell me what happened exactly and do you believe he actually did? Or was it all just in Dexter’s head? My dad has also told me that his baby son was just sitting there in a pool of blood (which sounds very similar to Dexter’s child hood). Please tell me because my father has just finished watching it…it is coming on again but won’t let me watch it because he doesn’t feel like seeing it again >.< haha thank you guys!

Yes. Dexter came back home, from killing the Trinity Killer, and found Rita dead in the tub in the same manner that the Trinity Killer kills his bathtub victims.

I personally don’t think it was a dream sequence at all. That seems rather lame and Dexter is never lame. (other than Deb. She’s annoying)
I think the fact that the Dexter’s son was covered in blood was supposed to be significant, but the Trinity Killer is not aware of Dexter’s past.

Unfortunately Deb was still not killed this season.

Seems like the Trinity killer did kill her. We are not that far in the series yet, but found the answer on Wikipedia. Looks very interesting.

I saw no indication that it was a dream sequence. I’m convinced Rita really was killed. Dexter thought he had problems this season with balancing family, work and serial-killing; with 3 kids to take care of by himself, his life is going to get a hell of a lot busier.

I wish the killing of Rita was a little bit… neater. Trinity ended up killing her in the bathtub, the method he used for young girls. He should have killed her with the method he used for middle-aged mothers: making her jump off a building. I realize that the way the writers did it has more of a visual impact and matched Dexter’s own origins; they should have thought of that earlier and made Trinity kill mothers in the bathtub. Or that’s the way I would have done it. The bottom line: Trinity isn’t a one-trick pony and he probably should have killed Rita in a different way.

@drdoombot :: Remember that Trinity had a cycle. The cycle started with a bathtub killing. And at the time he probably didn’t realize that he would be dead soon.

@johnpowell The cycle started with a bathtub killing… of a young woman. Rita was middle-aged and had children… matching the 2nd killing of the cycle.

I’m not saying I didn’t like the ending, I just think it could have been tidier.

The cycle actually started with the kidnapping of a young boy 5 days before the bathtub killing, which Trinity did.

My issue is with leaving the baby in the blood. That isn’t at all like Trinity’s MO.

Also, has anyone rewatched it to see if he reveals his murder to Dexter before he is killed?

@arpinum No, Dexter has no idea. He goes home thinking Rita is out of town, but then gets a message from her saying her flight was delayed. When he tries to call her back, her phone rings in the house. Then he hears the baby start to cry.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I didn’t see that coming at all. My husband and I were both just stunned. And I hate waiting for the next season!!

I personally like Deb. Cut her a break Dex is “fond” of her! :)

Harrison sitting I’m his mother’s bllod was significant. Dexter’s narration said something about them both being born in blood. I hate it that the deason has ended and we have to wait til September!

@MissAusten I’m not saying explicity inform Dexter.

Has anyone watched the conversation again when Trinity is on the table. What do they talk about? Are there hints or illusions?
