10K parties. Will they go on forever?

Asked by CMaz (26303points) December 19th, 2009

They are pretty cool.
It shows the special magic that Fluther is.
It is superior to the others because the type of interaction we do have.

But, what happens when there are 10k worth of people on here at any given time?
Fluther could/will have 50+ crossing over to 10k and 20k town at once.

MORE PARTIES!!!

I hope not.

Don’t get me wrong… 10K parties are cool, but at some point there will be so many people reaching it every day that the front page will be covered with 10K “questions.” That would really clutter the site and cut down on it’s utility. Hopefully Bendrew will come up with an alternative way of allowing people to congratulate each other.

In the last 48 hours, we have had 6 10K parties. How did this happen?
They did not all join at the same time.
ChazMaz joined May 2009
hearKat joined July 2007
La Chica Gomela joined July 2008
Jmah joined Dec 2008
Wildflower joined April 2008
Rooeytoo joined Mar 2008

I am guessing this was the result of the influx of Ask.Commers.
Since they just joined, they hadn’t reached the max lurve for anyone, so when the first player hit 10K, the lurve fest became a point feast.
I doubt we ever see this amout of players hitting at the same time again.
As far as the number of 10kers bringing down the quality of the site, I would say the exact opposite.

@filmfann – Don’t forget Simone_De_Beauvoir.

That makes 7.

Yeah, my lurve has been soaring the last few days, but I assume that is an artifact of the influx and things will soon slow to a normal pace. I think getting to 10,000 will take as long as usual in the future. But what about the Millionth Quip? We are almost there! I think that’s kind of exciting.

Nice analysis, @filmfann. GA.

As the Fab Four (kinda) once said,

“It’s only lurve and that is all”
“Why should I feel the way I do?”
“It’s only lurve, and that is all”
“But it’s so hard lurving you.”

Let’s hope so

I’ve been here for about a year and a half and by the time I reach 10K it will be a milestone akin to a 8th grader finally learning to tie their shoes.

But of course it’s not a straight graph with time, @Sueanne_Tremendous, and 10,000 is 10,000. You don’t get there without having a lot of people appreciate a lot of your contributions. Stick around and we’ll find you some huge bows for your shoes .

And I just realized the never ending cycle:

someone hits 10k -> people give their congratulation -> they get a bunch of lurve for it (because everyone always gives GAs for those) -> their score goes up -> and someone hits 10k

filmfann's avatar

@toomuchcoffee911 I think @filmfann already said that.

@filmfann I thought @filmfann was talking about how since the new users haven’t maxed out lurve for anyone, everyones score was going up faster. I believe @toomuchcoffee911 was talking about how there are so many more 10k parties and everyones score goes up there.

@toomuchcoffee911 I think what @filmfann was refering to was where @filmfann said “Since they just joined, they hadn’t reached the max lurve for anyone, so when the first player hit 10K, the lurve fest became a point feast.”
That directly refers to 10k parties.
Don’t argue with @filmfann or @filmfann. They know what they are saying.

@filmfan Ah, I see now. I must have missed that part. Sorry.
