Do people get paid for being on shows like Maury?

Asked by InspecterJones (1052points) December 25th, 2009

Do people that appear on shows like Maury get paid for their appearances?

I guess a side question is if these people are real, or just actors faking this stuff?

If so, what do they get from appearing on the show? I get that they get to be on tv and a free trip, but are there other incentives?

As far as I know, they are real people that want desperately to be on television. They may fabricate their stories to get on the show, but they are not paid actors. They’re sad, attention-starved, shameless, and hilarious to watch.

I dont think they get paid, i think the most they get is the free trip too NYC or Connecticut now i believe and a hotel stay.

I’m not sure about this, but I’ve “heard” that even regular “Guests” on Morning shows or news programs get paid something like 5k
I’m guessing famous people obviously don’t, but someone who just won something or did something and the whole country is talking about him/her, gets $ by going on late night shows, or morning shows….

Again, something I just heard.

God, I hope not. That show, Springer, all that ridiculous crap should be burned and buried, never again to see the light of day. One would hope that obnoxious stupidity would not be financially rewarded.
Actors faking it? I don’t know which would be worse, actors understanding the loser/idiot persona enough to make up convincing dialogue, or actual loser/idiots with lives THAT petty and small. I hope I can sleep tonight….

I believe these pathetic, hilarious losers get a free trip and a hotel room out of the deal.

I think they get free air travel and free hotel stays.

@Trillian : People who appear on the Springer show occasionally get free dental work. Jerry IS a licensed Dentist, and occasionally, just to keep his hand in and his skills honed, he will do free dental work on his guests. And you thought things couldn’t get weirder.

@Rude_Bear Are you serious? That can’t be true.

I was on the Trisha show. All we got was free airfare, free hotel, free food, and $25.00 per day on a gift card. But you spend all your time in studio in a greenroom doing nothing 8–9 hours per day. You can get free dental work if needed, but I also told them afterward that I need childcare repayment, and they sent a check for $200.00.
